Many companies prefer to use a Shipment Reference when creating shipments so that they have something to refer back to when the invoice is generated. A shipment reference can be utilized in many ways to determine the department that shipped a product to the type of content shipped. Below is a guide to using the Shipment Reference option in the platform.
Using the Shipment Reference Option
When creating a single shipment, you will see the reference on top of the Receiver info.
Click within the Reference field to enter a reference.
When completing the booking process the reference will print on the label.
Additional Reference Features
Additional options are available related to the Reference field.
Click the Settings tab.
Under “Admin Settings” select “Other Settings”
You have the option to require a reference for all shipments so that a user must enter a reference in order to book a shipment and also the ability to disable the reference field so that a user can't type in the field, but rather only has the ability to select the reference from a preset drop-down list.
If shipping from an eCommerce integration, you also have the option to use the Name and SKU from an order as the Reference and PO Number on a shipping label.
Lastly, if using USPS, you have the option to enable a second reference field.
Be sure to click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the Other Settings page after making any changes.
Reference Presets
The option to create a list of preset references is also available. This allows a user to select a reference from a drop-down list instead of typing the reference into the field.
Click the Settings tab.
Under “Admin Settings” select “Shipper Reference Presets”.
To add a reference as a preset, click within the box, add the reference, and click "Add Preset".
The list of preset references will be added to the list. To delete a preset reference, click the "X" located next to the reference.
When shipping a user will see the list of available reference presets within a list.
A user can also type the beginning of the reference to filter the list of preset references.
