At times it is necessary to purchase additional insurance when booking your shipment. Shipping insurance is not required, but it is recommended if you are shipping an item of value or an item whose market value is difficult to ascertain. If you have previously contacted XPS Ship and asked to have your account use carrier insurance for USPS packages or selected the option to "Use carrier insurance only" in Other Settings, your claim with be from EasyPost. The steps below will walk you through the process of purchasing additional insurance at the time of booking a shipment.

To add insurance to a shipment, complete the shipment details with the Sender & Receiver, Carrier, and Package Type. Within the shipment details section, you will see the option to add an additional insurance amount.
If you wish to only accept the complimentary coverage offered by the carrier (if any), then do not enter a value in the insurance field - leave it blank.
View the quote on the right side of the page. The charge for additional insurance will be displayed.
By completing the booking process and getting the label, you will purchase insurance for your shipment.
Important Info Regarding Additional Insurance
It is important to note that adding an insured amount does not replace the insurance that may be offered by the carrier. Some carriers, such as FedEx and UPS have a limited liability they will cover in the event the package is lost or damaged. Please refer to the carrier terms/conditions for specifics of carrier limited liability.
If you purchased additional insurance at the time your shipment was created, you can file a claim if the parcel was damaged or lost. All claims regarding damage are to be submitted to EasyPost within thirty (30) days of the shipment creation date. All claims regarding loss or theft are to be submitted to EasyPost after thirty (30) days of the shipment creation date, but no later than sixty (60) days of the shipment creation. Once the claim has been filed, all communication regarding the claim will come directly from EasyPost.
